Establishment

The Diocese of Jardim was established on 30 November 1978 by Pope Paul VI to serve the growing Catholic population in southern Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

The diocese was created from territory previously part of the Archdiocese of Campo Grande and the Diocese of Dourados. It has focused on rural evangelization and the development of parishes in agricultural communities since its founding.
