Establishment

The Diocese of Fresno was canonically erected on July 23, 1967, by Pope Paul VI through the apostolic constitution Eius de grege, carved from the territories of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the former Diocese of Monterey-Fresno.[1][2] This creation addressed the rapid growth of the Catholic population in California's agriculturally rich Central Valley amid post-World War II migration.
