Establishment

The Diocese of Campos was established on 4 July 1922 by Pope Pius XI to serve the growing Catholic population in northern Rio de Janeiro state, separating territory from the Archdiocese of Niterói.

History

Early Years

The diocese was created amid expanding missionary efforts in Brazil's coffee-growing regions during the early twentieth century. Its first bishop oversaw initial parish organization and seminary formation.
