Establishment
The Diocese of Afogados da Ingazeira was established on 2 August 1959 by Pope John XXIII through the bull "Cum Venerabilis Frater", carved from territory previously belonging to the Diocese of Pesqueira and the Diocese of Floresta to better serve the growing Catholic communities in the interior of Pernambuco.
