Blessed Winnoc
Blessed Winnoc (also known as Winnock, Winnoco; born c. 640 – died 6 November c. 716) was an Irish-born missionary and monastic founder who labored to evangelize the Low Countries during the seventh and early eighth centuries. After receiving his religious formation in Ireland, Winnoc traveled to Belgium and France, where he devoted himself to missionary work and the establishment of monastic communities. He founded the Monastery of Winoc (now called Abbey of Saint-Winnoc) in Bergues near Dunkirk, which became a significant center of monastic life and learning in the region. Biography
Irish monastic formation
Winnoc was born in Ireland around 640, during the height of the Irish monastic movement that had come to characterize the spiritual life of the Irish Church.
