Blessed Valeria
Blessed Valeria (flourished late 2nd or early 3rd century AD, Rome, Italy) was an early Christian martyr venerated in the Catholic and Orthodox traditions. Biography
Blessed Valeria was a Christian living in Rome during the period of Christian persecutions in the late second or early third century. According to tradition, she was a companion and friend of Saint Cecilia, a celebrated Roman martyr venerated as the patron saint of music and musicians.
Like many early Christians, Valeria faced pressure to renounce her Christian faith and participate in pagan worship. She steadfastly refused to abandon Christianity, remaining loyal to Christ despite the threat of punishment and death. Her refusal to renounce her faith resulted in her arrest by Roman authorities.
According to hagiographic tradition, Valeria was subjected to torture and ultimately executed for her Christian faith. She died as a martyr on 28 April, the date on which her feast is celebrated. Her body was buried by other faithful Christians, and her tomb became a place of pilgrimage and prayer.
