Blessed Titus Brandsma
Blessed Titus Brandsma, O.Carm (born February 23, 1881 AD in Oegeklooster, Friesland, Netherlands; died July 26, 1942 AD in Dachau, Bavaria, Germany) was a Dutch Carmelite priest, philosopher, journalist, and professor who was killed at the Dachau concentration camp for refusing to allow Nazi propaganda in Catholic newspapers and for speaking out against anti-Jewish persecution. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1985. He was canonized by Pope Francis in 2022. His feast day is July 27.

Biography
Anno Sjoerd Brandsma was born February 23, 1881, in Oegeklooster, Friesland, Netherlands. He entered the Carmelite Order and took the religious name Titus. He was ordained a priest in 1905.
He became professor of philosophy and mysticism at the Catholic University of Nijmegen and served as its rector magnificus in 1932–1933. He was one of the leading Dutch Catholic intellectuals of the inter-war period, writing extensively on Dutch medieval mysticism and Carmelite spirituality.
When the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands began (1940), he publicly opposed Nazi anti-Jewish policies and anti-Catholic propaganda. In January 1942 the Dutch bishops appointed him their emissary to visit Catholic newspaper editors with instructions that they must refuse to carry Nazi propaganda. He was arrested by the Gestapo on January 19, 1942, after visiting only a few offices.
He was transported through several prisons to Dachau concentration camp, where he arrived June 19, 1942. He was in declining health and subjected to medical experiments. Before receiving a lethal injection on July 26, 1942, he gave his rosary to the nurse administering it and spoke to her gently about Christ and Mary. She subsequently converted to Catholicism.
Pope John Paul II beatified him in 1985. Pope Francis canonized him on May 15, 2022.
