Blessed Thomas Holland
Blessed Thomas Holland (also known as Thomas Holland, S.J.), priest and martyr, was an English Jesuit who gave his life for the Catholic faith during the religious persecutions under King Charles I. Born into a recusant family in Lancashire, he studied on the Continent, joined the Society of Jesus, and returned to England as a missionary priest in 1638. For four years he ministered secretly to the faithful, celebrating the sacraments, preaching, and strengthening souls amid the dangers of priest-hunting. Arrested in 1642 while administering the sacraments, he endured imprisonment and trial with heroic fortitude.
Condemned for his priesthood, Blessed Thomas Holland was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Tyburn on December 12, 1642. He died with the name of Jesus on his lips, offering his life in union with Christ’s sacrifice. Beatified by Pope Pius XI on December 15, 1929, as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, he is venerated in the Roman Rite as a model of priestly zeal and loyal witness. His example inspires seminarians, missionaries, and all who face opposition for the faith. His feast day is celebrated on December 12 (or with the group on October 25).

Biography
Birth
Blessed Thomas Holland was born around 1600 in Chipping, Lancashire, England, into a staunchly Catholic recusant family at a time when practicing the faith carried heavy penalties.
This heritage of fidelity amid persecution shaped his early vocation.
Early Life
Sent abroad for Catholic education, he studied at St. Omer and entered the English College in Valladolid, Spain. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1624 and was ordained a priest around 1629.
His formation prepared him for the dangerous mission of returning to England.
