Blessed Pierina Morosini
Blessed Pierina Morosini (born January 7, 1931 AD in Fiobbio, Albino, Italy; died April 6, 1957 AD in Fiobbio, Albino, Italy) was an Italian Catholic laywoman, factory worker, and member of Catholic Action who died resisting a sexual assault and is venerated as a martyr for chastity. Her feast day is April 6.
Born into a poor and devout family of the Bergamo valleys, Pierina Morosini worked as a seamstress and in a cotton mill to help support her parents and younger siblings, while living a life of intense prayer and devotion. She was an active member of Catholic Action and was drawn to the example of Saint Maria Goretti.
On April 4, 1957, she was attacked while returning home from work; she resisted her assailant and died of her injuries two days later. She was beatified by Saint John Paul II on October 4, 1987, who recognised that she had died "in defence of chastity."

Biography
Birth and early life
Pierina Morosini was born on January 7, 1931, in the hamlet of Fiobbio, in the commune of Albino, in the province of Bergamo, Italy. She was the eldest of a large and poor family, and from childhood she helped her parents care for her younger brothers and sisters.
Deeply pious from her youth, she attended daily Mass and became an active member of Catholic Action. She was devoted to the Rosary and took as her model Saint Maria Goretti, the young martyr of purity beatified and canonised in her own lifetime.
Occupation and devotion
To help support her family, Morosini worked as a seamstress and then in a local cotton mill, walking to and from the factory each day. Her fellow workers remembered her modesty, diligence, and constant prayer. She hoped one day to become a missionary sister, offering her ordinary labour and hidden sacrifices to God.
Death
On April 4, 1957, as she returned home from the mill through a wooded path, Pierina Morosini was attacked by a man who attempted to assault her. She resisted him and was gravely beaten. She was found unconscious and died of her injuries on April 6, 1957, in her home village of Fiobbio, at the age of twenty-six.
The Church recognised her death as a martyrdom "in defence of chastity," placing her among the witnesses to purity in the tradition of Saint Maria Goretti.

Canonization
Beatification
Pierina Morosini was beatified on October 4, 1987, by Saint John Paul II in Saint Peter's Basilica, who declared that she had died "in defensum castitatis" — in defence of chastity. As a recognised martyr, no miracle was required for her beatification. She has not been canonized.

Blessed Pierina Morosini is venerated especially in the Diocese of Bergamo, where her memory is also kept on May 6. Her remains rest in the church of Fiobbio, a place of pilgrimage for the faithful, and she is honoured as a patron of young women and of the defence of chastity.
