Blessed Odilia Baumgarten
Blessed Odilia Baumgarten (born June 15, 1750 AD in Gondrexange, France; died February 1, 1794 AD at Avrillé, Angers, France) was a French Daughter of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul and one of the Martyrs of Angers, put to death during the French Revolution for her fidelity to the Catholic faith. Also written Odile Baumgarten, she is venerated as a Blessed and martyr of the Church. Her feast day is February 1.
A servant of the sick and the poor at Angers, Sister Odilia refused to abandon her religious vocation or to take the oath rejected by the Church, and she was shot together with her companion Marie-Anne Vaillot. She was beatified in 1984 among the Martyrs of Angers.

Biography
Odilia Baumgarten was born on June 15, 1750, at Gondrexange in the region of Lorraine, France. As a young woman she entered the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, the community devoted to the service of the sick and the poor, and she was sent to Angers, where she cared for the needy alongside her fellow sisters.
During the French Revolution, the persecution of the Church fell heavily upon Angers. Sister Odilia, together with her companion Sister Marie-Anne Vaillot, refused to abandon her religious commitments or to swear the oath demanded of the clergy and religious, which the Church had condemned. For this fidelity the two were arrested and condemned to death.
On February 1, 1794, Odilia Baumgarten was executed by firing squad at Avrillé, near Angers, with her companion and many other faithful Catholics. She was beatified on February 19, 1984, by Pope John Paul II among the ninety-nine Martyrs of Angers. Her feast is kept on February 1.
