Blessed Mary Magdalene Martinengo
Blessed Mary Magdalene Martinengo (born October 4, 1687 AD in Brescia, Italy; died July 27, 1737 AD in Brescia, Italy) was an Italian Capuchin Poor Clare nun, a mystic and abbess renowned for her extraordinary penance, humility, and interior life. Born Countess Margherita Martinengo into a noble family of Brescia, she is venerated as a Blessed of the Church. Her feast day is July 27.
Renouncing rank and wealth for the cloister, Mary Magdalene Martinengo embraced a life of severe mortification and profound prayer, serving her community as novice-mistress and abbess. She was beatified in 1900.

Biography
Margherita Martinengo was born on October 4, 1687, at Brescia in northern Italy, a daughter of the noble Martinengo family. Losing her mother young and raised amid the comforts and expectations of her rank, she nevertheless felt drawn from an early age to prayer, penance, and the things of God, and she resolved to give herself wholly to Christ.
Overcoming her family's reluctance, she entered the monastery of the Capuchin Poor Clares at Brescia, taking the religious name Mary Magdalene. In the cloister she embraced a life of remarkable austerity, practicing severe mortifications and seeking always the lowest and most hidden place. Her interior life was marked by deep contemplation, mystical experiences, and heavy spiritual trials, all of which she bore with patience and abandonment to God. She left spiritual writings that reflect the depth of her prayer.
Recognized for her holiness and prudence, she was entrusted with the offices of novice-mistress and abbess, guiding her sisters with gentleness and wisdom. Mary Magdalene Martinengo died at Brescia on July 27, 1737. She was beatified on June 3, 1900, by Pope Leo XIII. Her feast is kept on July 27.
