Blessed Marie Poussepin
Blessed Marie Poussepin (born October 14, 1653 AD in Dourdan, France; died January 24, 1744 AD in Sainville, France) was a French laywoman, businesswoman, and religious founder, who established the Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin. Combining practical enterprise with deep charity, she devoted herself to the care of the sick poor and the education of country girls. She is venerated as a Blessed of the Church. Her feast day is January 24.
Once the manager of a family stocking-making business, Marie Poussepin turned her gifts to the service of the poor, founding a community that united Dominican spirituality with active works of mercy. She was beatified in 1994.

Biography
Marie Poussepin was born on October 14, 1653, at Dourdan in France, into a family engaged in the manufacture of silk and woolen stockings. On the death of her mother she took charge of the household and later of the family business, which she managed capably, introducing improvements and caring for the welfare of her workers. From her youth she was active in the local confraternity of charity, serving the sick and the poor of her town.
Feeling called to consecrate herself more fully to God, she handed over the business and, in 1696, settled at Sainville near Chartres, where she gathered companions to form a community. This became the Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin, whose sisters, following the Third Order of Saint Dominic, combined a life of prayer with the nursing of the sick poor in their homes and the free instruction of country girls.
Marie Poussepin governed and formed her congregation for many years, and it spread widely. She died at Sainville on January 24, 1744, at the age of ninety. She was beatified on November 20, 1994, by Pope John Paul II. Her feast is kept on January 24.
