Blessed Marianus of Ireland
Blessed Marianus of Ireland (Irish: Muiredach mac Robartaig; Latin: Marianus Scotus; died c. 1088 AD in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany) was an Irish Benedictine monk and abbot who settled in Germany and founded the abbey of Saint Peter at Regensburg, the first of the "Schottenklöster" (monasteries of the Irish and Scots) in the German lands. He is venerated as a Blessed of the Benedictine Order. His feast day is February 9.
A learned Irish monk and skilled scribe, Marianus set out on pilgrimage and remained in Bavaria, where his holiness and his community attracted followers and endowments, giving rise to a family of Irish monasteries in central Europe. He has long been venerated at Regensburg.

Biography
Marianus—in Irish, Muiredach mac Robartaig—was an Irish monk of the eleventh century, of a family of the north of Ireland (the region of Donegal). About 1067 he set out from Ireland with companions on pilgrimage, in the ancient Irish tradition of exile for the love of God (peregrinatio), intending to go to Rome.
Passing through the German lands, he halted at Regensburg (Ratisbon) in Bavaria, where he was welcomed, and there he remained. He embraced the Benedictine monastic life and became renowned for his holiness, his learning, and above all his skill as a scribe: he copied out the Scriptures and other sacred books with great diligence, and these labors were later famous.
Around Marianus and his Irish companions grew a community, supported by the devotion and generosity of the people and nobles of Regensburg. This became the abbey of Saint Peter—the first of the "Schottenklöster," the monasteries of the Irish (and later Scots) monks in Germany and central Europe, of which several more were founded from Regensburg in the following generations.
Marianus governed this community as its founding abbot and died at Regensburg about the year 1088. He was venerated as a Blessed of the Benedictine Order, honored from ancient times, and his feast is kept on February 9. He is to be distinguished from Marianus Scotus the chronicler, another Irish monk of the same century.
