Blessed Margaret of Lorraine
Blessed Margaret of Lorraine (French: Marguerite de Lorraine; born 1463 AD in Vaudémont, Lorraine, France; died November 2, 1521 AD in Argentan, Normandy, France) was a French princess of the House of Lorraine and Duchess of Alençon who, after her widowhood and the raising of her children, renounced her rank to become a Poor Clare nun. She is venerated as a Blessed of the Franciscan Order. Her feast day is November 6.
As duchess and regent, Margaret governed her domains with justice and piety and founded a convent of Poor Clares at Argentan; then, her duties fulfilled, she entered that convent herself as a humble sister. She was beatified in 1921.

Biography
Margaret was born in 1463 at Vaudémont, a princess of the House of Lorraine; she was a sister of Duke René II of Lorraine. Raised in piety, she was married in 1488 to René, Duke of Alençon, becoming Duchess of Alençon. The marriage was brief, for the duke died in 1492, leaving Margaret a young widow with three small children.
As dowager duchess and regent, Margaret governed the duchy of Alençon during the minority of her son with wisdom, justice, and charity, caring for her people, reforming abuses, and living a life of prayer and good works. She refused to remarry, though as a princess she might have made a great match, choosing instead to devote herself to her children and her domains.
When her children were grown and settled and her duties as regent fulfilled, Margaret withdrew ever more from the world. She founded a convent of Poor Clares at Argentan, and at length she entered it herself, not as a patroness but as a simple, humble nun, embracing the poverty and obedience of the Franciscan life of Saint Clare.
Margaret of Lorraine died at the convent of Argentan on November 2, 1521. She was beatified on March 20, 1921, by Pope Benedict XV. Her feast is kept on November 6.
