Blessed Marco Antonio Durando
Blessed Marco Antonio Durando (born May 22, 1801 AD in Mondovì, Piedmont, Italy; died December 10, 1880 AD in Turin, Italy) was an Italian priest of the Congregation of the Mission (the Vincentians or Lazarists) and the founder of the Sisters of Jesus of Nazareth (the Nazarene Sisters). A tireless preacher of missions and promoter of charity in Piedmont, he is venerated as a Blessed of the Church. His feast day is December 10.
For decades a leader of the Vincentians in Piedmont, Marco Antonio Durando preached popular missions, guided the Daughters of Charity, promoted devotion to the Passion, and founded a congregation of sisters to care for the sick and dying in their homes. He was beatified in 2002.

Biography
Marco Antonio Durando was born on May 22, 1801, at Mondovì in Piedmont, Italy, into a family that would be prominent in the life of the Italian Risorgimento. Drawn to the priesthood and the missionary life, he entered the Congregation of the Mission—the Vincentians or Lazarists, founded by Saint Vincent de Paul—and was ordained a priest in 1824.
He spent his priestly life largely in Turin and Piedmont, where for decades he was a leading figure of the Vincentians, serving as visitor (provincial superior). He devoted himself above all to the preaching of popular missions and retreats, calling ordinary people to conversion, and to the formation of clergy. He also had charge of the Daughters of Charity in the region, guiding and expanding their works of mercy, and he promoted devotion to the Passion of Christ and to Our Lady of Sorrows.
Moved by the plight of the sick and dying who lacked spiritual and human care in their last days, Durando founded in 1865 the Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus of Nazareth (the Nazarene Sisters), whose sisters devoted themselves to nursing the sick and assisting the dying in their homes.
Marco Antonio Durando died at Turin on December 10, 1880. He was beatified on October 20, 2002, by Pope John Paul II. His feast is kept on December 10.
