Blessed Manuel Medina y Olmos
Blessed Manuel Medina y Olmos (Spanish: Manuel Medina Olmos; born January 6, 1869 AD in Lanteira, Granada, Spain; died August 30, 1936 AD near Almería, Spain) was a Spanish Catholic bishop, Bishop of Guadix, who was martyred during the religious persecution of the Spanish Civil War. He was killed together with Blessed Diego Ventaja Milán, Bishop of Almería, and is honored among the Martyrs of the Spanish Civil War. His feast day is observed on August 30.
A learned and charitable pastor devoted to Catholic education and social works, Manuel Medina y Olmos was arrested when the persecution broke out in 1936 and, refusing to deny his faith, was shot with his brother bishop. The two bishops were beatified in 1993.

Biography
Manuel Medina y Olmos was born on January 6, 1869, at Lanteira in the province of Granada, Spain. He was ordained a priest and became a distinguished churchman, noted for his learning and his zeal for Catholic education and social action. He served as an auxiliary bishop and then, from 1928, as Bishop of Guadix, where he devoted himself to the formation of clergy, to schools and charitable works, and to the pastoral care of his people.
When the Spanish Civil War broke out in July 1936, a violent persecution of the Catholic Church erupted in the areas controlled by the anti-clerical forces. Bishop Medina y Olmos was in the region of Almería. He and Blessed Diego Ventaja Milán, the Bishop of Almería, were arrested. Offered the chance to save their lives, the two bishops refused to renounce their faith or their office.
On August 30, 1936, Manuel Medina y Olmos was shot near Almería together with Bishop Ventaja Milán and other captives, dying as a martyr for the Catholic faith.
The two bishops were beatified on October 10, 1993, by Pope John Paul II, among the martyrs of the Spanish Civil War. His feast is observed on August 30.
