Blessed Maddalena Caterina Morano
Blessed Maddalena Caterina Morano (born November 15, 1847 AD in Chieri, Piedmont, Italy; died March 26, 1908 AD in Catania, Sicily, Italy) was an Italian religious sister of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (the Salesian Sisters), a gifted teacher and organizer of catechesis and education in Sicily. She is venerated as a Blessed of the Church. Her feast day is March 26.
Rising from poverty to become a schoolteacher, Maddalena Morano entered the Salesian Sisters and was sent to Sicily, where she built up schools, catechetical programs, and religious houses across the island. She was beatified in 1994.

Biography
Maddalena Caterina Morano was born on November 15, 1847, at Chieri, near Turin in Piedmont, Italy, into a poor family. The early death of her father and a brother obliged her, while still young, to work to support her family. Determined and hardworking, she trained as a schoolteacher and taught for some years, helping to raise her family while nurturing her own desire to consecrate herself to God.
In 1878 she was able to enter the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Salesian Sisters founded by Saint John Bosco and Saint Mary Domenica Mazzarello for the Christian education of girls. Recognized for her ability, she was soon sent to Sicily, beginning at Trecastagni.
For thirty years Maddalena Morano labored in Sicily, becoming the leading figure in the growth of the Salesian Sisters there. She founded and directed schools, workshops, oratories, and houses of the congregation; she organized and promoted catechesis on a wide scale, forming catechists and reaching great numbers of children and adults; and she guided the sisters as provincial superior. Her energy, wisdom, and holiness left a deep mark on the Church in Sicily.
Maddalena Caterina Morano died at Catania on March 26, 1908. She was beatified on November 5, 1994, by Pope John Paul II. Her feast is kept on March 26.
