Blessed Louise of Savoy
Blessed Louise of Savoy (French: Louise de Savoie; born December 28, 1462 AD in Geneva (House of Savoy); died July 24, 1503 AD in Orbe, Switzerland) was a princess of the House of Savoy who, after being widowed, became a Poor Clare nun and was known for her humility, penance, and charity. She is venerated as a Blessed of the Franciscan Order. Her feast day is July 24.
A granddaughter of kings and a great-niece of Saint Colette, Louise renounced the world after the death of her husband to enter the Poor Clares at Orbe, where she lived and died in the practice of the Franciscan virtues. Her cult was confirmed in 1839.

Biography
Louise was born on December 28, 1462, a princess of the House of Savoy, the ruling dynasty of Savoy and Piedmont. She was a daughter of Amadeus IX, Duke of Savoy—himself venerated as a Blessed—and of Yolande of France, a sister of King Louis XI; through her family she was connected to several royal houses. She was also a great-niece of Saint Colette of Corbie, the reformer of the Poor Clares.
Brought up in piety, Louise was married to Hugh of Chalon, lord of Châtel-Guyon, and lived as a devout wife and a benefactor of the poor and of religious houses. After some years her husband died, leaving her a young widow without children.
Free now to follow the desire of her heart, Louise renounced her rank and the prospects of a second marriage and entered the convent of Poor Clares at Orbe, in what is now Switzerland. There the former princess lived as a humble nun, embracing the poverty, penance, obedience, and prayer of the Franciscan life, and edifying her sisters by her humility and charity.
Louise of Savoy died at Orbe on July 24, 1503. She was venerated as a Blessed, and her cult was confirmed in 1839 by Pope Gregory XVI. Her feast is kept on July 24.
