Blessed Louis-Zéphirin Moreau
Blessed Louis-Zéphirin Moreau (born April 1, 1824 AD in Bécancour, Quebec, Canada; died May 24, 1901 AD in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada) was a Canadian Catholic bishop, the fourth Bishop of Saint-Hyacinthe, who governed his diocese for nearly thirty years and founded religious congregations for education and charity. He is venerated as a Blessed of the Church. His feast day is May 24.
Of humble health and origins, Louis-Zéphirin Moreau was a devoted and organizing pastor who built up the institutions of his diocese, founded the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint-Hyacinthe and the Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood in his see, and was esteemed for his holiness and simplicity. He was beatified in 1987.

Biography
Louis-Zéphirin Moreau was born on April 1, 1824, at Bécancour in Lower Canada (Quebec), one of a large and pious farming family. Frail in health from his youth, he nonetheless felt called to the priesthood. After difficulties owing to his health, he was accepted for the young Diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe and was ordained a priest in 1846.
He served for many years as secretary and administrator to the bishops of Saint-Hyacinthe, becoming intimately acquainted with the needs of the diocese. In 1875 he himself was named the fourth Bishop of Saint-Hyacinthe.
As bishop for twenty-six years, Moreau devoted himself to organizing and strengthening his diocese: founding and supporting parishes and schools, promoting catechesis and devotion, caring for the clergy, and encouraging the religious life. He founded the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint-Hyacinthe, dedicated to teaching, and established the Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood in his diocese. He was known for his gentleness, humility, and closeness to his people.
Louis-Zéphirin Moreau died at Saint-Hyacinthe on May 24, 1901. He was beatified on May 10, 1987, by Pope John Paul II. His feast is kept on May 24.
