Blessed Leonianus of Autun
Blessed Leonianus of Autun (Latin: Leonianus; died c. 570 AD in Autun, Gaul (present-day France)) was a monk and abbot of the sixth century who, according to tradition, had been a captive carried off to Gaul, and who founded or governed monastic communities at Vienne and Autun. He is venerated as a Blessed (and by ancient custom as a saint). His feast day is November 16.
Of foreign origin and once held in captivity, Leonianus embraced the monastic life and became renowned for holiness, austerity, and the direction of both monks and consecrated women. He was long venerated at Autun.

Biography
Leonianus lived in the sixth century, in the age when monastic life was spreading through Gaul. According to the tradition preserved about him, he was of foreign birth—said to have come from Pannonia or the East—and had been carried off as a captive and brought into Gaul, before gaining his freedom.
Embracing the Christian monastic life, he settled first, tradition holds, at Vienne on the Rhône, where he lived as a monk and recluse, and later at Autun in Burgundy. There he governed a monastery and was esteemed as a spiritual father, guiding both a community of monks and communities of consecrated women. He was renowned for his austerity, his gift of prayer, and the miracles attributed to him.
Leonianus died at Autun about the year 570. He was venerated as a saint from ancient times, before the formal papal process of canonization, and is honored as a Blessed. His feast is kept on November 16. Because the sources are early and partly legendary, some particulars of his life cannot be established with historical precision.
