Blessed Laurentia Harasymiv
Blessed Laurentia Harasymiv (Ukrainian: Yosafata Lavrentiya Harasymiv; born September 1911 AD in Rudno, near Lviv, Ukraine; died August 28, 1952 AD in Kharsk, Tomsk Oblast, Russia) was a Ukrainian Greek Catholic religious sister of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate who died as a martyr in Soviet exile during the persecution of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Her feast day is observed with the Ukrainian martyrs.
A young professed sister, Laurentia Harasymiv refused to abandon her Catholic faith and her communion with Rome when the Soviet authorities suppressed the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Arrested and deported to Siberia, she died of tuberculosis in exile. She was beatified in 2001.

Biography
Yosafata Lavrentiya Harasymiv was born in 1911 at Rudno, near Lviv, in what was then Galicia and is now western Ukraine. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, a religious congregation of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and made her profession as a religious sister, taking the name Laurentia.
After the Second World War, the Soviet regime, having taken control of western Ukraine, set out to destroy the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and to force its members into the Russian Orthodox Church under state control. Bishops, priests, and religious who remained faithful to the Holy See were arrested, imprisoned, and deported.
Sister Laurentia refused to renounce her faith and her communion with Rome. Already ill with tuberculosis, she was arrested by the Soviet authorities and, with others, deported to Siberia. Held in exile in the harsh conditions of the Tomsk region, she was denied the care she needed, and she died there of her illness on August 28, 1952, a young sister faithful unto death.
Laurentia Harasymiv was beatified on June 27, 2001, by Pope John Paul II at Lviv, among the martyrs and confessors of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church who suffered under the totalitarian regime. Her feast is kept with the Ukrainian martyrs.
