Blessed Ladislaus Findysz
Blessed Ladislaus Findysz (Polish: Władysław Findysz; born December 13, 1907 AD in Krościenko Niżne, Poland; died August 21, 1964 AD in Nowy Żmigród, Poland) was a Polish Catholic priest who died as a result of imprisonment and persecution under the communist regime of Poland. He is regarded as the first beatified martyr of the communist persecution in Poland. His feast day is observed on August 23.
A dedicated parish priest, Władysław Findysz sought to renew the religious life of his people in accordance with the Second Vatican Council. For this pastoral activity he was arrested by the communist authorities, given a harsh prison sentence, and denied proper medical care; released gravely ill, he soon died. He was beatified in 2005.

Biography
Władysław Findysz was born on December 13, 1907, at Krościenko Niżne in southern Poland. He was ordained a priest in 1932 for the Diocese of Przemyśl and served in various parishes, becoming pastor of Nowy Żmigród, where he labored with dedication for the spiritual and material welfare of his parishioners through the years of the Second World War and the imposition of communist rule.
After the Second Vatican Council, Findysz sought to carry out a program of pastoral renewal in his parish, calling his people to a deeper Christian life, to reconciliation, and to the reception of the sacraments. The communist authorities, hostile to the Church and to any energetic pastoral activity, regarded this work as illegal "coercion" in religion.
In 1963 he was arrested and put on trial, and was sentenced to imprisonment. In prison, already suffering from cancer, he was denied appropriate medical treatment and his health was gravely undermined. He was released early because of his critical condition, but the harm had been done. He died at Nowy Żmigród on August 21, 1964.
Władysław Findysz was beatified on June 19, 2005, in Warsaw, in a ceremony authorized by Pope Benedict XVI, recognized as the first beatified martyr of the communist persecution in Poland. His feast is observed on August 23.
