Blessed Juvenal Ancina
Blessed Juvenal Ancina (Italian: Giovenale Ancina; born October 19, 1545 AD in Fossano, Piedmont, Italy; died August 31, 1604 AD in Saluzzo, Piedmont, Italy) was an Italian physician who became a priest of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri and later Bishop of Saluzzo. A learned and holy pastor of the Catholic Reformation, he is venerated as a Blessed of the Church. His feast day is August 30.
Trained in medicine and philosophy, Juvenal Ancina was drawn by Saint Philip Neri into the Roman Oratory, where he became a noted preacher and musician. Made Bishop of Saluzzo against his wishes, he devoted himself to the reform of his diocese and, according to tradition, died of poisoning administered by an enemy of his reforms. He was beatified in 1869.

Biography
Giovenale Ancina was born on October 19, 1545, at Fossano in Piedmont, Italy. He studied medicine and philosophy at Montpellier and Turin and became a physician of learning and repute. Sent to Rome in the service of the Duke of Savoy's ambassador, he came under the influence of Saint Philip Neri, the "Apostle of Rome" and founder of the Oratory.
Drawn by Philip's holiness and joy, Ancina entered the Roman Oratory and was ordained a priest. He became a distinguished member of the community, known for his preaching, his learning, and his gifts in sacred music; he collected and promoted devotional songs (laudi) for the Oratory. He also worked for a time in Naples helping to establish the Oratory there.
His reputation led to his being nominated Bishop of Saluzzo. He long resisted the honor, but was at last obliged to accept, and was consecrated in 1602. As bishop he threw himself into the reform of his diocese in the spirit of the Council of Trent—visiting parishes, reforming the clergy, and caring for the poor.
His zeal for reform made him enemies. According to the tradition, an adversary of his efforts to correct abuses administered poison to him, and Juvenal Ancina died at Saluzzo on August 31, 1604, after a short time as bishop. He was beatified in 1869 by Pope Pius IX. His feast is kept on August 30.
