Blessed John of Warneton
Blessed John of Warneton (French: Jean de Warneton; born in Flanders; died January 27, 1130 AD in Thérouanne, France) was a Flemish churchman who became Bishop of Thérouanne and was a notable reformer of his diocese in the spirit of the Gregorian reform. A pupil of Saint Ivo of Chartres, he combined learning with pastoral zeal and personal austerity. He is venerated as a Blessed. His feast day is January 27.
As Bishop of Thérouanne, John labored to reform the clergy and to establish canons regular, and he supported the foundation of new monasteries. Renowned for his gentleness and mercy—he is said to have forgiven those who once attacked him—he was long venerated in the region.

Biography
John of Warneton took his name from Warneton in Flanders, on the borders of present-day France and Belgium. He received an excellent education, studying under Saint Ivo of Chartres, one of the foremost canonists and reformers of his age, and he embraced the ideals of the Gregorian reform, which sought to renew the discipline and independence of the Church.
He became a canon and was known for his learning and virtue. About 1099 he was chosen Bishop of Thérouanne, one of the ancient sees of the region of Flanders and Artois. He accepted the office with reluctance, but as bishop he devoted himself energetically to the reform of his diocese.
John worked to reform the lives of the clergy, to establish and promote communities of canons regular, and to support the new monastic foundations of his day. He was esteemed for his personal austerity and for his mercy: tradition relates that when he had been assaulted by enemies of reform, he pardoned his attackers rather than seeking vengeance.
John of Warneton died at Thérouanne on January 27, 1130. He was venerated as a Blessed, and his feast is kept on January 27.
