Blessed John de Monte-Mirabili
Blessed John de Monte-Mirabili (French: Jean de Montmirail; born 1165 AD in Montmirail, Champagne, France; died September 29, 1217 AD at Longpont Abbey, Aisne, France) was a French nobleman and knight of the court of King Philip II Augustus who renounced his rank and became a Cistercian monk. He is venerated as a Blessed of the Cistercian Order. His feast day is September 29.
Lord of Montmirail and a distinguished soldier and courtier, John was moved by conversion to abandon the world for a life of humility and penance. Entering the abbey of Longpont, he served in the lowliest tasks and died there in the odor of sanctity.

Biography
John of Montmirail was born in 1165 into the high nobility of Champagne, becoming lord of Montmirail. He was raised for a life of arms and courtly service and became a valued knight and counselor at the court of King Philip II Augustus of France, distinguished both as a soldier and as a man of integrity.
Married and the father of a family, John was nevertheless drawn increasingly to prayer, almsgiving, and care for the poor and the sick. Over time he resolved to leave behind his rank, his wealth, and the honors of the court in order to give himself entirely to God.
With the arrangements made for his family, John entered the Cistercian abbey of Longpont as a simple monk. There the former lord and courtier embraced the humblest duties, seeking to be unknown and to serve. He lived out his remaining years in penance and obedience.
John of Montmirail died at Longpont on September 29, 1217. He was venerated as a Blessed of the Cistercian Order, and his feast is kept on September 29.
