Blessed John Thorne
Blessed John Thorne (also John Thorn; died November 15, 1539 AD at Glastonbury Tor, Somerset, England) was an English Benedictine monk of Glastonbury Abbey who was martyred under King Henry VIII, together with his abbot Blessed Richard Whiting and his fellow monk Blessed Roger James, during the suppression of the monasteries. He is honored among the English Martyrs. His feast day is November 15.
The treasurer of Glastonbury Abbey, John Thorne remained faithful to the Catholic Church and the Holy See when the king dissolved the monastery. He was hanged with his abbot and companion on Glastonbury Tor. He was beatified in 1895.

Biography
John Thorne was an English Benedictine monk of Glastonbury Abbey in Somerset, one of the greatest and most ancient monasteries in England, where he served as treasurer, having charge of the abbey's valuables and its church.
When King Henry VIII broke with Rome and set about the dissolution of the monasteries, Glastonbury was among the last of the great houses to fall. Its abbot, Blessed Richard Whiting, refused to surrender the abbey or to deny the authority of the pope. The king's agents seized the monastery, and the abbot and certain of his monks were charged—on trumped-up accusations of robbery, but in truth for their fidelity to the Catholic Church.
John Thorne, together with the abbot and another monk, Blessed Roger James, was condemned. On November 15, 1539, the three were drawn to the summit of Glastonbury Tor, the hill overlooking the abbey, and there hanged, dying as martyrs.
John Thorne was beatified on December 13, 1895, by Pope Leo XIII, among the English Martyrs. His feast is kept on November 15.
