Blessed John Slade
Blessed John Slade (died October 30, 1583 AD in Winchester, Hampshire, England) was an English Catholic layman and schoolmaster who was executed during the persecution under Queen Elizabeth I for denying the queen's supremacy over the Church. He was martyred together with Blessed John Bodey and is honored among the English Martyrs. His feast day is October 30.
A learned schoolmaster, John Slade refused to acknowledge Queen Elizabeth as head of the Church in England, upholding the authority of the Catholic Church and the Holy See. Condemned for this, he was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Winchester. He was beatified in 1886.

Biography
John Slade was an English Catholic layman who worked as a schoolmaster. He lived in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, when the practice of the Catholic faith and the denial of the queen's ecclesiastical supremacy were treated as crimes against the state.
Slade refused to accept Queen Elizabeth as the Supreme Head of the Church in England, holding fast to the authority of the pope and the Catholic Church. He was arrested and, together with another layman, Blessed John Bodey, was tried and condemned to death for this refusal.
On October 30, 1583, John Slade was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Winchester, dying for the Catholic faith. His companion John Bodey was executed shortly afterward.
John Slade was beatified on December 29, 1886, by Pope Leo XIII, among the English Martyrs. His feast is kept on October 30.
