Blessed John Shert
Blessed John Shert (born in Cheshire, England; died May 28, 1582 AD at Tyburn, London, England) was an English Catholic priest who was executed during the persecution under Queen Elizabeth I. A former schoolmaster who studied for the priesthood on the Continent, he was hanged, drawn, and quartered for his priesthood and is honored among the English Martyrs. His feast day is May 28.
John Shert was martyred at Tyburn together with the priests Blessed Thomas Ford and Blessed Robert Johnson. He was beatified in 1886.

Biography
John Shert was born in Cheshire, England, and was educated at Oxford, where he took a degree. For a time he worked as a schoolmaster in London. When his Catholic convictions made conformity to the established religion impossible, he left England to study for the priesthood.
He studied at the English College at Reims and at Rome, was ordained a priest, and returned to England to minister to the Catholics who kept the faith under persecution. Under the Elizabethan penal laws, priests ordained abroad who came into the realm were treated as traitors.
Shert was arrested and, in the wave of trials that followed the campaign against seminary priests, was condemned to death. On May 28, 1582, he was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Tyburn, together with the priests Blessed Thomas Ford and Blessed Robert Johnson, all dying for their priesthood and their fidelity to the Catholic Church.
John Shert was beatified on December 29, 1886, by Pope Leo XIII, among the English Martyrs. His feast is kept on May 28.
