Blessed John Robinson
Blessed John Robinson (born in Ferrensby, Yorkshire, England; died October 1, 1588 AD in Ipswich, Suffolk, England) was an English Catholic priest who was executed during the persecution under Queen Elizabeth I. A widower who became a priest late in life, he was hanged, drawn, and quartered for his priesthood. He is honored among the English Martyrs. His feast day is October 1.
After the death of his wife, John Robinson went abroad to study for the priesthood at Reims, and on returning to England was quickly arrested. He was martyred at Ipswich. He was beatified in 1929.

Biography
John Robinson was born at Ferrensby in Yorkshire, England. He married and lived as a layman, but after the death of his wife he resolved to give himself to the service of the Church as a priest, in spite of the dangers of the Elizabethan persecution.
He went abroad to the English College at Reims, where he was ordained a priest. When he returned to England to minister to the faithful, he was arrested almost immediately upon landing, under the penal laws that treated priests ordained abroad as traitors.
After a period of imprisonment, John Robinson was condemned for his priesthood and, on October 1, 1588, was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Ipswich in Suffolk, dying a martyr for the Catholic faith. He left a son who was himself preparing for the priesthood.
He was beatified on December 15, 1929, by Pope Pius XI, among the English Martyrs. His feast is kept on October 1.
