Blessed John Nepomuk Zegrí y Moreno
Blessed John Nepomuk Zegrí y Moreno (Spanish: Juan Nepomuceno Zegrí y Moreno; born October 11, 1831 AD in Granada, Spain; died March 17, 1905 AD in Málaga, Spain) was a Spanish Catholic priest and the founder of the Congregation of the Mercedarian Sisters of Charity, dedicated to the care of the poor, the sick, orphans, and the marginalized. He is venerated as a Blessed of the Church. His feast day is March 17.
A zealous pastor, preacher, and social apostle, Juan Nepomuceno Zegrí founded his congregation at Málaga in 1878 to embody works of mercy in imitation of Our Lady of Ransom (Mercy). Despite trials and misunderstandings, including a period of unjust removal from the leadership of his own institute, he persevered in humility. He was beatified in 2003.

Biography
Juan Nepomuceno Zegrí y Moreno was born on October 11, 1831, in Granada, Spain. He studied for the priesthood and was ordained in 1855, beginning a long and active pastoral ministry as a parish priest, preacher, and canon, marked especially by his concern for the poor and suffering.
Deeply devoted to Our Lady under the title of Mercy (Our Lady of Ransom), Zegrí conceived the idea of a religious congregation that would put into practice the works of mercy toward the most needy. In 1878, at Málaga, he founded the Congregation of the Mercedarian Sisters of Charity, whose sisters would care for the sick, the aged, orphans, the poor, and the marginalized.
The congregation grew and spread, but its founder endured much suffering. Through misunderstandings and calumnies he was for a time removed from the direction of the institute he had founded and set aside. He accepted these trials with patience and humility, offering them for the good of his sisters and the poor they served.
Juan Nepomuceno Zegrí died at Málaga on March 17, 1905. He was beatified on November 9, 2003, by Pope John Paul II. His feast is kept on March 17.
