Blessed John Mary du Lau
Blessed John Mary du Lau (French: Jean-Marie du Lau d'Allemans; born October 30, 1738 AD in the Périgord, France; died September 2, 1792 AD in Paris, France) was a French Catholic prelate, the Archbishop of Arles, who was murdered in the September Massacres of the French Revolution. He is honored as one of the Martyrs of Paris (the September Martyrs). His feast day is September 2.
As Archbishop of Arles, John Mary du Lau refused to swear the oath to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy and stood firm in defense of the Church. Imprisoned with many priests at the Carmelite convent in Paris, he was among the first killed when a revolutionary mob broke in. He was beatified in 1926.

Biography
Jean-Marie du Lau d'Allemans was born on October 30, 1738, into a noble family of the Périgord in south-western France. He entered the ecclesiastical state and rose in the Church, becoming Archbishop of Arles in 1775. He was esteemed as a devoted and capable pastor and took part in the affairs of the French Church on the eve of the Revolution.
When the Revolution imposed the Civil Constitution of the Clergy in 1790, requiring clergy to swear an oath subjecting the Church to the state, the archbishop refused, as did many bishops and priests. He became a marked man as the Revolution turned increasingly against the non-juring clergy.
In 1792, amid the fall of the monarchy and the panic that gripped Paris, large numbers of priests and religious were imprisoned. The Archbishop of Arles was confined with many others at the Carmelite convent (Couvent des Carmes) in Paris. On September 2, 1792, revolutionary mobs invaded the prisons of the city and began the massacres of the inmates. Du Lau was among the first to be struck down, killed in the garden of the Carmes while at prayer, at the head of the company of martyrs slain there.
He was beatified on October 17, 1926, by Pope Pius XI, together with the other Martyrs of Paris of September 1792. His feast is kept on September 2.
