Blessed John Marinoni
Blessed John Marinoni (Italian: Giovanni Marinoni; born 1490 AD in Venice, Italy; died December 13, 1562 AD in Naples, Italy) was an Italian Catholic priest of the Theatine Order, a close companion of Saint Cajetan (Gaetano Thiene), and a renowned preacher in Naples. He is venerated as a Blessed of the Theatines. His feast day is December 13.
John Marinoni gave up a canonry in Venice to join the newly founded Theatine clerics regular. At Naples he became famous for his preaching and for his charity to the poor, and he helped establish the charitable pawn-bank (Monte di Pietà) to protect the needy from usury. He was beatified in 1762.

Biography
Giovanni Marinoni was born at Venice in 1490. Ordained a priest, he served with distinction in his native city, holding a canonry and devoting himself to preaching and to the care of the sick and the imprisoned.
When Saint Cajetan and his companions founded the Theatines—one of the first orders of clerics regular of the Catholic Reformation, dedicated to a reform of clerical life and to apostolic zeal—Marinoni was drawn to their ideal. He renounced his benefice and entered the new congregation, becoming one of Cajetan's closest and most trusted collaborators.
Marinoni accompanied the Theatines to Naples, where he spent the greater part of his life. He became one of the most celebrated preachers of the city, drawing great crowds by his eloquence and holiness, and he labored constantly for the relief of the poor. He is associated with the promotion of the Monte di Pietà at Naples, a charitable institution offering loans to the needy so as to deliver them from usurers. Out of humility he twice refused the archbishopric of Naples.
John Marinoni died at Naples on December 13, 1562. He was beatified in 1762 by Pope Clement XIII, and his feast is kept on December 13.
