Blessed John Grove
Blessed John Grove (born c. 1620 AD in England; died January 24, 1679 AD in Tyburn, London, England) was an English Catholic layman who was hanged at Tyburn as a victim of the Titus Oates "Popish Plot" fabrication. He is venerated among the English martyrs beatified by Pope Pius XI on December 15, 1929. His feast day is January 24.

Biography
John Grove was born c. 1620 in England. He was a Catholic layman who worked as a servant to Jesuit priests in London.
When Titus Oates fabricated the "Popish Plot" in 1678, alleging a Catholic conspiracy to assassinate King Charles II, Grove was caught in the resulting persecution. He was accused of carrying messages for the alleged conspirators and was tried at the Old Bailey. Despite his innocence, he was convicted on perjured testimony.
He was the first of the Popish Plot victims to be executed, hanged at Tyburn on January 24, 1679, together with Blessed William Ireland SJ.
He was beatified by Pope Pius XI on December 15, 1929. His feast day is January 24.
