Biography

John Garbella was born c. 1390 in Pavia, Lombardy. He entered the Order of Hermits of Saint Augustine (Augustinians) and lived as a friar in Pavia, devoting himself to preaching and the contemplative life in this university city on the Ticino River.

He lived during the Visconti and early Sforza period in Lombardy, when Pavia was a significant intellectual center.

He died c. 1450 in Pavia. His feast day is August 26.
