Blessed John Bassano (born c. 1360 AD in Alessandria, Piedmont, Italy; died February 26, 1445 AD in Alessandria, Piedmont, Italy) was an Italian Catholic Augustinian friar known for his holiness, preaching, and care for the poor in Alessandria. He was beatified by confirmed local cult. His feast day is February 26.

Biography

John Bassano was born c. 1360 in Alessandria, Piedmont. He entered the Order of Hermits of Saint Augustine (Augustinians) and lived as a friar in Alessandria, devoting himself to preaching and to care of the poor.

He lived through the turbulent politics of 14th-15th century Piedmont, a border region contested by Milan, Savoy, and Montferrat. Through all of this he remained a humble, holy friar known for his preaching and his works of charity.

He died February 26, 1445, in Alessandria. His feast day is February 26.
