Blessed John Baptist Zola
Blessed John Baptist Zola (born September 8, 1575 AD in Brescia, Lombardy, Italy; died November 19, 1626 AD in Nagasaki, Japan) was an Italian Catholic Jesuit priest who was martyred in Japan during the Tokugawa persecution of Christians. He is venerated among the 205 Martyrs of Japan beatified by Pope Pius IX on July 7, 1867. His feast day is September 10.

Biography
John Baptist Zola was born September 8, 1575, in Brescia, Lombardy. He entered the Society of Jesus and was ordained a priest. He was sent to Japan as a missionary, continuing the Jesuit mission inaugurated by Saint Francis Xavier in 1549.
By the time he arrived in Japan, the Tokugawa shogunate had begun its systematic suppression of Christianity. He ministered secretly among the underground Catholic community until he was captured. He was burned alive at Nagasaki on November 19, 1626, four years after the Great Martyrdom of September 10, 1622.
He was beatified by Pope Pius IX on July 7, 1867, among the 205 Martyrs of Japan. His feast day is September 10.
