Biography

John Angelus was born c. 1320 in Fabriano, in the Marche region of central Italy. He entered the Third Order of Saint Francis (Franciscan tertiaries), living the Franciscan spirit of poverty, penance, and charity as a lay person in the world.

He was known in Fabriano for his personal austerity and his charitable care of the poor. He lived in the city during the same period as the painter Allegretto Nuzi and before Gentile da Fabriano, in an era of artistic and spiritual flourishing in the Marche.

He died November 11, 1405, in Fabriano. His feast day is November 11.
