Blessed John Amias
Blessed John Amias (born c. 1546 AD in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England; died March 16, 1589 AD in York, England) was an English Catholic priest who was martyred at York during the Elizabethan persecution of Catholics. He is venerated among the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987. His feast day is March 16.

Biography
John Amias was born c. 1546 in Wakefield, Yorkshire. He worked as a clothmaker before entering the Catholic priesthood. He studied at the English College at Rheims and was ordained a priest.
He returned to England to minister clandestinely to the Catholics of Yorkshire, risking his life under the Act against Jesuits and Seminary Priests (1585), which made the presence of an ordained Catholic priest in England a capital offense.
He was arrested in Yorkshire, tried, and condemned. He was hanged, drawn, and quartered at York on March 16, 1589, together with Blessed Robert Dalby.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987, among the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is March 16.
