Blessed James of Padua

Blessed James of Padua (born c. 1573 AD in Padua, Veneto, Italy; died September 28, 1618 AD in Nagasaki, Japan) was an Italian Catholic Franciscan friar who was martyred in Japan during the Tokugawa persecution. He is venerated among the martyrs of Japan. His feast day is September 28.

Biography

James of Padua was born c. 1573 in Padua, Veneto, Italy. He entered the Franciscan Order and traveled to Japan as a missionary, continuing the Franciscan mission there despite the Tokugawa persecution.

He was captured and martyred at Nagasaki on September 28, 1618. His feast day is September 28.
