Blessed James Guengoro (born c. 1600 AD in Japan; died September 10, 1622 AD in Nagasaki, Japan) was a Japanese Catholic child martyr who died in the Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki at approximately six years of age, along with his mother Blessed Mary Guengoro. He is venerated among the 205 Martyrs of Japan beatified by Pope Pius IX on July 7, 1867. His feast day is September 10.

Biography

James Guengoro was born c. 1616 in Japan, the son of a Catholic family in the Nagasaki region. He was approximately six years old at the time of his martyrdom.

During the Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki on September 10, 1622, James was executed alongside his mother, Blessed Mary Guengoro, along with 49 other Christians. He is among the youngest of the 205 Martyrs of Japan.

He was beatified by Pope Pius IX on July 7, 1867, among the 205 Martyrs of Japan. His feast day is September 10.
