Biography

Jacques Ledoyen was born c. 1756 in France and was ordained a Catholic priest. During the French Revolution, he refused to take the oath to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy (1790), which would have subjected the Church to the revolutionary state.

He was arrested as a non-juring priest and martyred on August 26, 1792, in Paris, during the wave of anti-clerical killings that preceded the September Massacres.

He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on February 19, 1984, among the 191 Martyrs of the French Revolution. His feast day is August 26.
