Blessed Idesbald
Blessed Idesbald (born c. 1090 AD in Flanders, Belgium; died April 18, 1167 AD in De Panne, West Flanders, Belgium) was a Belgian Catholic Cistercian monk who served as the second abbot of the Abbey of the Dunes (Ten Duinen) at Koksijde in West Flanders. A former Flemish noble and courtier, he entered the Cistercians in his later years and governed one of the great Belgian Cistercian abbeys. He was beatified by Pope Alexander VI in 1497. His feast day is April 18.

Biography
Idesbald was born c. 1090 in Flanders. A nobleman, he served as a courtier at the court of the Counts of Flanders before his conversion. He entered the Cistercian Abbey of the Dunes (Ten Duinen) at Koksijde on the North Sea coast c. 1135-1140.
He was elected second abbot of the abbey in 1156, succeeding the founding abbot Blessed Guy of Durnes. He governed the community for 11 years until his death.
He died April 18, 1167, at Koksijde. He was beatified by Pope Alexander VI in 1497. His feast day is April 18.
