Blessed Humbert of Romans
Blessed Humbert of Romans (born c. 1200 AD in Romans-sur-Isère, Dauphiné, France; died July 14, 1277 AD in Valence, Dauphiné, France) was a French Catholic Dominican friar who served as the fifth Master General of the Dominican Order from 1254 to 1263. A distinguished administrator, theologian, and preacher, he compiled the definitive form of the Dominican liturgy, wrote the influential treatise De eruditione praedicatorum (On the Formation of Preachers), and proposed a plan for Christian mission to the Islamic world at the Second Council of Lyon (1274). He was beatified by confirmed local cult. His feast day is July 14.

Biography
Humbert of Romans was born c. 1200 in Romans-sur-Isère in Dauphiné. He joined the Dominican Order c. 1224, just a few years after its foundation. He served as prior of the Dominican convent in Paris, then as provincial prior of France and of Lombardy.
He was elected fifth Master General of the Dominican Order in 1254. During his nine-year generalate he compiled the definitive form of the Dominican liturgy (the Codex Humbertinus, 1256), wrote the De eruditione praedicatorum (On the Formation of Preachers), and oversaw the order's continued expansion. He resigned the generalate in 1263.
At the Second Council of Lyon (1274), he submitted his Opusculum tripartitum, a major analysis of Church reform and Christian mission to Muslims and Eastern Christians.
He died July 14, 1277, in Valence. His feast day is July 14.
