Blessed Humbert III
Blessed Humbert III of Savoy (born August 4, 1136 AD in Oulx, Piedmont, Italy; died March 4, 1189 AD in Chambéry, Savoy, France) was the Count of Savoy from 1148 to 1189 and is venerated as a blessed for his personal holiness, generosity to the poor, and his desire to become a monk. He was beatified by Pope Innocent VI in 1363. His feast day is March 4.

Biography
Humbert III was born August 4, 1136, in Oulx, Piedmont. He became Count of Savoy in 1148 upon the death of his father Amadeus III during the Second Crusade. He governed Savoy for 41 years.
Despite his position as a powerful Alpine count, he was renowned for personal holiness, charity to the poor, and a desire to become a Cistercian monk at Hautecombe Abbey. He married four times (all wives died young) and had two surviving children. His counselors persuaded him that his duties as count required him to remain in the world rather than enter monastic life.
He died March 4, 1189, in Chambéry, and is buried at Hautecombe Abbey. He was beatified by Pope Innocent VI in 1363. He is an ancestor of the Royal House of Savoy. His feast day is March 4.
