Blessed Hippolytus Galantini
Blessed Hippolytus Galantini (born October 12, 1565 AD in Florence, Tuscany, Italy; died March 20, 1619 AD in Florence, Tuscany, Italy) was an Italian Catholic layman, silk weaver, and catechist who founded the Congregation of Christian Doctrine (Congregazione della Dottrina Cristiana) in Florence to teach the Catholic faith to children and the poor. Despite severe physical illness throughout his life, he devoted himself to catechetical instruction and spiritual works of mercy. He was beatified by Pope Leo XIII on February 10, 1886. His feast day is March 20.

Biography
Ippolito Galantini was born October 12, 1565, in Florence. The son of a Florentine artisan family, he was apprenticed as a silk weaver. Beginning c. 1577, at about age 12, he began gathering children and illiterate adults to teach them the Catholic catechism in his home parish.
He organized this work into the Congregation of Christian Doctrine (Congregazione della Dottrina Cristiana), a lay association devoted to catechetical instruction of the poor. The congregation received approval from the Archbishop of Florence and from Pope Paul V. Throughout his life he suffered chronic physical illness but continued his apostolate.
He died March 20, 1619, in Florence. He was beatified by Pope Leo XIII on February 10, 1886. His feast day is March 20.
