Blessed Guerricus
Blessed Guerric of Igny (born c. 1080–1085 AD in Tournai, present-day Belgium; died August 19, 1157 AD in Igny, Champagne, France) was a French-Flemish Cistercian monk, student of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, and second abbot of the Abbey of Igny in Champagne. He is renowned for his collection of liturgical sermons, which are among the finest examples of 12th-century Cistercian spiritual theology. He was beatified by Pope Clement XIII on October 3, 1.768 (confirmed). His feast day is August 19.

Biography
Guerric of Igny was born c. 1080–1085 in Tournai (present-day Belgium). He taught in the cathedral school of Tournai before entering the Abbey of Clairvaux under Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. Bernard recognized his gifts and Guerric became a Cistercian monk at Clairvaux.
In 1138, Guerric was appointed the second abbot of the Abbey of Igny in Champagne, France, a daughter house of Clairvaux. He served as abbot until his death on August 19, 1157. His 54 liturgical sermons, remarkable for their Marian theology and Christocentric spirituality, are among the finest writings of 12th-century Cistercian tradition.
He was beatified by Pope Clement XIII on October 3, 1768. His feast day is August 19.
