Blessed Gregory Lopez
Blessed Gregory Lopez (born June 4, 1542 AD in Madrid, Spain; died July 20, 1596 AD in Michoacán, Mexico) was a Spanish Catholic mystic and hermit who lived in New Spain (Mexico) in remarkable solitude and poverty, eventually settling in Michoacán, where he served the poor, sick, and indigenous people and wrote a celebrated concordance of Scripture. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on February 1, 1988. His feast day is July 20.

Biography
Gregory Lopez was born June 4, 1542, in Madrid, Spain. At age 20, he left Spain and sailed to New Spain (Mexico), where he spent the rest of his life.
He lived for over thirty years in extraordinary solitude, poverty, and mystical prayer — first as a wandering hermit in various parts of Mexico, then settling in Michoacán, where he served the poor, sick, and indigenous people. Despite his radical simplicity, he wrote a remarkable concordance of the entire Bible entirely from memory, published posthumously in 1678.
He died July 20, 1596, in Michoacán. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on February 1, 1988. His feast day is July 20.
