Blessed Gregory Escrivano
Blessed Gregory Escrivano (died July 25, 1570 AD in the Atlantic Ocean, near the Canary Islands) was a Spanish Catholic Jesuit scholastic (lay brother candidate) martyred at sea near the Canary Islands along with Blessed Ignatius de Azevedo and thirty-eight companions — the Forty Martyrs of Brazil — who were killed by French Calvinist pirates. He was beatified by Pope Paul VI on October 11, 1854 (confirmed later). His feast day is July 15 (with the group).

Biography
Gregory Escrivano was a Spanish Jesuit scholastic in formation for the priesthood. In 1570 he joined the group of Jesuit missionaries led by Blessed Ignatius de Azevedo sailing from Lisbon to Brazil.
On July 15, 1570, near the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, their ship was attacked by the French Calvinist pirate Jacques de Sores. Gregory and his thirty-eight companions were killed for their Catholic faith and their bodies thrown into the sea.
He was beatified with his companions by Pope Pius IX on May 11, 1854. His feast day is July 15.
