Blessed Gonzalo
Blessed Gonzalo of Amarante (born c. 1187 AD in Amarante, Portugal; died January 10, 1259 AD in Amarante, Portugal) was a Portuguese Catholic Dominican friar who built a bridge over the Tâmega River at Amarante, Portugal, to serve pilgrims and the poor. He is the patron of Amarante. His feast day is January 10.

Gonzalo of Amarante was born c. 1187 in Amarante, Portugal. He made pilgrimages to Rome and Santiago de Compostela and joined the Dominican Order. Returning to his native Amarante, he built a bridge over the Tâmega River to serve pilgrims and the poor, and established a hospice nearby.
He died January 10, 1259, in Amarante. He is the patron of Amarante. His feast day is January 10.
