Blessed Gisele
Blessed Gisela of Hungary (born c. 985 AD in Bavaria, Germany; died May 7, 1065 AD in Passau, Bavaria, Germany) was a Bavarian Catholic princess who became the first Queen of Hungary as the wife of Saint Stephen I of Hungary (c. 975-1038), the apostolic king who Christianized Hungary. After her husband's death and forced exile from Hungary, she ended her days as a Benedictine abbess at Niederburg Convent in Passau, Bavaria. Her feast day is May 7.

Biography
Gisela of Hungary was born c. 985 in Bavaria, the daughter of Duke Henry II of Bavaria and sister of the future Holy Roman Emperor (and Saint) Henry II. She married Stephen I of Hungary c. 997 and became the first Queen of Hungary when Stephen was crowned on December 25, 1000.
Together with her husband, she worked to Christianize Hungary — establishing churches, monasteries, and schools. After Stephen's death in 1038 and subsequent political upheaval, she was forced to return to Bavaria.
She became a Benedictine nun and abbess at Niederburg Convent in Passau. She died May 7, 1065. Her feast day is May 7.
